Doldrums January 31, 2010 1 Comment

I took the dogs out last night at midnight. It was clear, cold as hell, and I could have sworn someone had installed a light above my garage that was shining on my backyard. Nobody did that. Why the hell would they? It was just the full moon on a cold, clear winter night in [...]

An Addiction to Streamer Fishing

He has a serious problem, this man. Some would call it a sickness. He’s a junkie of the worst kind and he knows it, lying and cheating to get what he needs, reckless in the pursuit of his much-needed fix.
He is the Streamer [...]

A new guy’s view… September 22, 2009 1 Comment

This is a report from the “newbie” we took along with us for the  ASBWPA Clean Up. To be fair, this was not Scott’s first fly fishing trip so he really isn’t a true “newbie” but it was his first weekend on the Au Sable. We asked him to put together a little trip story [...]

Au Sable clean ups are coming up fast! Saturday Sept. 12th! August 26, 2009 No Comments

There are a few Au Sable clean ups coming and both are well worth the time spent. You never know what you’re gonna find either. People lose all kinds of interesting shit out there. My first year I found a pretty damn nice boat anchor. Shoulda kept that but at the time I didn’t have [...]

Au Sable Trip July 16, 2009 No Comments

Hit the Au Sable a few weeks ago for a few days to fish the hex hatch and since I was there we didn’t really find any bugs. It figures. Why would one of the founders of a site called Hatchless expect any bugs? I guess it isn’t entirely true because we did fish a [...]

Grand Slams and Hat Tricks June 1, 2009 1 Comment

I was reading a recent post on FoulHooked the other day about fishing “Grand Slams” and “Hat Tricks” and it got me wondering…
What would I call a Grand Slam on my home water? What would a Hat Trick be on my home water? Then came the real question…
WTF is my home water?
What kind of flyfisher can I be [...]

Its been four long years… May 1, 2009 No Comments

I have waited for this day for four long years and it is finally here. Maiden voyages require a christening of some sort don’t they? I believe I have a little of this laying around. We’ll see if that works. No, I will not smash any bottles on the bow but I’m sure that by [...]

Standing in a River, waiving a S.H.F. April 15, 2009 1 Comment

What’s in a name? Those of us who look at our vises as a way to create the new and produce the previously unknown realize (or SHOULD realize) that we will probably never get rich tying flies. Fly tying has, so far, been immune from the patent craze. I’m sure there is someone working at Rapala who has made some serious $$$ because he carved the original Shad-Rap. There may even come a day when some deuche-bag wants us all to send him a nickle every time we tie a fly he invented (good luck there. The check’s in the mail). However, whomever tied the first S.H.F., as it’s affectionately referred to in Hatchless circles, won’t ever see a dime.
