Topic: Float Times - Drift Boats

It's come to my attention that there is a serious lack of information for those of us looking to explore new rivers in our drift boats.  Well I'm tired trusting the GPS, DNR, and Google earth to tell me where/when/how long a stretch of river is.  There is nothing worse than 1.) getting caught in the dark without a clue as to where you are, or 2.) rushing through a float because  you are afraid of getting caught in the dark.

Don't get me wrong... there wont be too much information given here..... but let's talk about float times and ramp conditions for our favorite rivers.

Re: Float Times - Drift Boats

State: Michigan
River: Muskegon
Point A  -  Point B: Croton Dam - Thornapple Access
Float Time: 2.5-3 Hrs
Ramp/Parking/Car Spot Info:  Ramps at both locations are excellent.  Concrete ramps ( a steep one at the dam) at both sites.  $6/day fee to use ramp and/or park at Thornapple.  Trailer parking could be a little limited at the dam but is pletiful at Thornapple so take your trailer to the takeout.

State: Michigan
River: Muskegon
Point A  -  Point B: Mystery Creek Campground  -  Bridgeton
Float Time: 2.5 Hours (with a headwind)
Ramp/Parking/Car Spot Info:  Mystery Creek has a fair ramp.  Watch out for the large rocks at the bottom.  The campground may charge you a $2 or $3 fee for the ramp, but who cares.  The ramp at Bridgeton looked good as we floated by.  Never stopped there.  Parking looks like it might be a little limited.

State: Michigan
River: Muskegon
Point A  -  Point B: Bridgeton - Maple Island
Float Time: 4.5 hours (with a STRONG headwind, a lot of rowing, and low flow)
Ramp/Parking/Car Spot Info:  Looks like a good launch at Bridgeton.  The ramp at Maple Island is a nice wide concrete ramp but it is very shallow.  Unless the water is up you may have to huff your boat up onto the trailer.  Ample parking here for truck and trailer.

Re: Float Times - Drift Boats

I'll do the first Ausable and let the Hatchless herd finish the rest>>>>>>

State: Michigan
River: AuSable
Point A  -  Point B:   Mio  -  Comins Flats
Float Time: 4 Hr
Ramp/Parking/Car Spot Info:  Good ramp at Mio.  Plenty of water and good parking.  Pretty solid current at the ramp and directly below so dont let go of the boat!  Good trailer parking right at the ramp here.  Comins Flats has a very large parking area and another good concrete ramp.  Plenty of space to shore the boat and prep for takeout.  Beware the masses of drunk canoers.  Car spots in the trophy water are great.  I've always had good service from the AuSable Angler in Mio.  The service they use does a great job.  Never had a problem.
